Out on two, back on one…

We had an early start today. Discovered that a Clairol blow-dryer can be pressed into service as a reasonably good window defroster. Shut down the starboard engine after the intermittently leaking injector pipe #4 transitioned to continuously leaking. A replacement part is on the way via FedEx tomorrow, but in the meantime we still cruised 52 miles on one engine at a respectable 7.5 miles per hour. This begs the question of whether an additional 1.5 mph is worth running an entire additional engine. I wondered this until trying to moor in the wind & current with one of the twin engines shut down. Come to think of it, still being able to cruise 52 miles on one engine while awaiting repair parts on the second is an added bonus. Meanwhile, the Weather Channel warns that Snowmageddon is headed south from Canada in a few days. We are targeting an off-channel marina with electricity to hunker down for a few days as it arrives. When we pulled up to the marina today and opened our cabin door wearing coats, scarves and watch caps, the owner asked, ‘ don’t you have heat in that boat’. In my defense, I explained that we started planning and working on the boat last August amidst a heatwave in the midwest, so the boat has four air conditioners, but only a few electric space heaters. Had we considered a Christmas cruise, we’d have asked Santa for a Webasto marine diesel heater… ;-0
