Sunday evening, Dec.18

Mmmm….golly is it cold! We left Louisville fairly early and made it thru the McAlpine Lock by about 10:00am. The wind and water were much calmer today so we made very good progress along a very lonely stretch of river. From Louisville, the next marina open for business is 120 miles downriver. In planning for today’s cruise I consulted several sources but couldn’t find any spot off river to anchor out. Before South Pause was ours, she was previously Bonn Fire and has completed The Loop with her previous owners. Left behind upon purchase were stacks of old navigation charts, most over 20 years old. Figuring they we too old to be accurately helpful, I tossed them all. Save 1… The Ohio River Navigation Chart. The US Army Corps of Engineers publish detailed charts of waterways and are the TripTik versions of road maps we used to get from AAA.

And there it was on Cart No. 72

Right there… Blue River. Mile 663. Our previous owners had anchored out at this very spot as they came upriver 15 years or so ago. So we set our fancy electronic navigational equipment to mile 663 and the Blue River Public Access Site.

And there it is…

Boat Ramp on the left.

And the anchor spot for the night!!! We made it 60 miles…half way to the next marina. And no lock to pass thru for tomorrow.

That’s amazing you’re retracing the previous owners voyage. Luckily you kept some of their maps. It sounds like you’re making good progress. Dave and I are enjoying these updates.
