Launch Day!!!

Today has been 9 years in the making… the launch of South Pause from Lighthouse Point Yacht Club in Aurora, IN. We had hoped to launch yesterday but a storm brought in heavy rain and thick fog, so we rested and completed a few more items on the never ending task list. Mike and Jan took our little Fiat, Pepe, downriver to our landing spot for today. Jan was kind enough to cruise with us today and help us through our first lock at Markland Dam. We then cruised a few hours further and anchored out at Carrollton, KY. Launching the dinghy and taking the dogs ashore went fairly smoothly and no one took a swim which is very good since it is pretty cold and windy.

The first time I met Jan coming down the dock, I introduced myself and asked him if he wanted to go on The Loop with us! He said, SURE!!! So it is fitting that on our first day, he is cruising along with us newbies. We hope he will join us again as we cruise in The Gulf along FL. But for today we so enjoyed his company, his cooking and his patient instruction.

Headed thru Markland Dam

I have about 7 layers on and 2 hats. You can see our America’s Great Loop Cruisers Association flag on the bow.

We anchored at Carrollton, KY and brought Jan and the pups to shore on the dinghy. It was a little glitchy but no one took a swim.

Moose and Violet are pretty easy to load…

But I wish Olive was about 20 pounds lighter.
