Today we reached a milestone: several dozen plastic bins of tools and boat parts that had been living on our map table in the saloon were ready to be stowed in the lockers beneath the dinette. Lisa crawled on her belly wearing a respirator and painted them with Bilgecoat this summer, transforming them from scary to gleaming. We both breathed a sigh of relief to actually see the top of the map table again alter 8 years!
Next, our friends Dale & Alexander brought a picnic lunch (foodies ๐ ). Experienced cruisers, they came to conduct “Boat School” with us before setting out. Today’s lessons were anchoring, and launching/recovering the dinghy to take the dogs ashore. The windlass (anchor winch) and davit winch both worked smoothly, which was as expected but nonetheless a relief on or first trial of them after having been rewired by Mike. The pups (Olive, Violet & Moose) clad in there doggie PFDs (personal flotation device) did fine. They seemed a little uncertain until we took them ashore and they realized the purpose of their dinghy ride. After sniffing about on shore, they hopped right back on the dinghy for the ride back to the boat.
Attached are some photos of today’s fun!
